Timpanogos Cave National Monument
American Fork, UT
Junior Ranger – Senior Friendly
Completed: June 23, 2013
The highlight of visiting this site is touring the cave, however there is plenty more to enjoy at Timpanogos Cave National Monument. I have toured the cave in the past and enjoyed the experience. Cave tickets can be reserved based on the following information from the website;
Important Note – Cave tours are very popular and often sell out in advance. Weekends and holidays are particularly busy, and it is best to avoid those days if possible. Tour tickets may be purchased up to 30 days in advance online or by calling (877) 444-6777 between 10:00 AM and Midnight EST.
This program is considered Senior Friendly because the upper age group is listed as “ages 9 and over”, no upper age is designated. The other age group is for ages 8 and under. To earn this badge the booklet lists several requirements for both age groups and then each age group is to complete at least three activities specific to their group. The lower age group symbol is a Stalagmite and the upper age group symbol is a Stalactite.
Booklet & badge
In the booklet I completed the pages titled; Junior Ranger Responsibility, Ranger Interview, Animal Match, How Cave Formations are Made, Help the Bat Find Its Way, Cave Formation Identification, What Lives in a Cave, Caver’s Supply List, Cave Word Search, Batty Art, and Draw a Picture or Write a Poem.
There were several opportunities to complete drawings which I enjoyed. Drawing the canyon walls within the monument proved to be quite a challenge. Cave Formation Identification was a challenge to match the formations included in the drawing.
